Location of Viet Hai Fishing Village

Viet Hai village is located deep in the core zone of Cat Ba National Park, about 40 minutes by boat from the town center, 15 minutes by speedboat, or 3.5 hours by foot from the entrance of the national park. The village is nestled in a beautiful valley, surrounded by high mountains that protect the village from the storms of the sea.

History of Viet Hai village

In the past, Viet Hai fishing village, also known as Tai Lai village, was inhabited by a few Chinese families, after the Chinese left, the Vietnamese government encouraged and gathered a few households in the neighboring residential areas to form Viet Hung village. After that, Viet Hung village was renamed Viet Hai.

Viet Hai commune is divided into 2 villages, Viet Hai 1 and Viet Hai 2. However, because it is too small and everyone knows each other, this division is not clear.

Viet Hai Village currently has more than 80 households with about 300 people, but many young people have gone out to study and work, so there are only more than 100 people living here. They are mainly the elderly, children, and a few households doing tourism.

What month to visit Viet Hai village?

The tourist season of Viet Hai village is not much different from the tourist season of Cat Ba. The most favorite time for many people is autumn and early winter when the weather is only a little chilly. It’s the time that the leaves begin to change color.

Viet Hai fishing village is especially loved by soon-to-be couples and chosen as a place to take wedding photos as well as record videos because the beauty of the mountains, forests, and flowers here create great romantic photos.

Interesting experience at Viet Hai village

Coming to Viet Hai village, there are many things for visitors to experience such as cycling around the village, trying to cook wine, and drinking wine cooked at local people’s houses. How to move to Viet Hai fishing village

Using Viet Hai communal boat

This is a local vehicle (like a bus) operating with the main purpose of serving local people.

The latest Viet Hai commune ferry schedule is as follows:

  • From Beo wharf – Viet Hai: 11:00 a.m. (Monday – Saturday) and 4:00 p.m. (Sunday)
  • From Viet Hai – Beo wharf: 6:30 am

The price of a ferry ticket for people with household registration in Viet Hai village is 20,000 VND/person/time and the price for guests outside the village is 30,000 VND/person/time. If you bring a motorbike, the price is 50,000 VND/person/way including the bike.

When you arrive at Viet Hai wharf, you can take an electric car or hire a bicycle to go to the village.

Trekking through Cat Ba National Park

If you are a trekking lover then this is a great way for you to visit Viet Hai Village. You can take a car or taxi to the gate of Cat Ba National Park. The entrance ticket price here is 80,000 VND/person. You follow the route May Bau – Ao Ech – Viet Hai. The trekking time is about 3.5 hours.
